April 10-16, 2023

I feel like I'm back in the routine of mission life after my trip to Alberta and then fighting a cold.  Nothing spectacular happened this week, except that spring has arrived!  And we hope it stays for awhile.  We have enjoyed a week of sunshine and temps in the 60's and low 70's.  We see the cargo ships and freighters moving along the Saint Lawrence Seaway, which means most of the ice has melted or flowed out to sea, making the seaway passable again.

We are preparing for a mission tour next week with Elder and Sister Bassett  We will have an in-person meeting with them here in Montréal, then join via zoom as they visit the other zones in the mission.  It's a lot of area to cover in five days.

Our Stake presented an Easter Concert yesterday (yes, a week after Easter).  There were choirs from several wards, individuals and families that participated.

The May family is in our ward.  All seven of their children were there to sing and they all have very nice voices.  Only two still live at home and we had not previously met most of the children.  Brother May's family is originally from one of the Caribbean islands but he lived in England most of his life until he brought his family to Canada.  So they speak with a mostly British accent with a little island twang mixed in.

We enjoyed the music but had to leave a few minutes early for our dinner reservation.  Saturday was our anniversary and we tried a new steak restaurant in LaSalle.  It has been under construction since we arrived and finally opened around Christmas.  It has received rave reviews so we thought we should try it.

Prime rib for John, filet mignon for me

John was happy with his prime rib but I wasn't as impressed.  The service was excellent, but I found the food a bit lacking.  And it was very pricey.  I'll say it was "good" but not good enough to return again.  My favorite part of dinner was stopping at Dairy Queen for ice cream on the way home!  Our date night out was a big improvement over last year.  Last year we both had Covid on our anniversary and we couldn't even leave the apartment.
