January 30-February 5, 2023

Baby, it's cold outside!!!  We walked from the metro to the food bank on Friday.  The temperature was -17 F.  With winds at 23 mph, the wind chill was -33 F.  I thought my fingers might freeze in the few seconds my glove was off to take the picture.  Driving home, none of the traffic lights off island were working - not a good sign.  We couldn't see any lights in businesses or homes either.  We were without power for an hour after we arrived home.  It was out about four hours while we were away, so we didn't suffer much.

Today we're having a heat wave - it's 29 F.  It's still cold, but normal winter cold, not the instant biting cold on your bare skin like it was Friday and Saturday.

I forgot to mention last week that the baptism goal for the Canada Montréal Mission in 2022 was 200.  There were 213 total baptisms in 2022.  The Mission Leader Council was very optimistic when they set the goal for 2023 at 348.  Miracles are happening every day so we shall see!

We had another baptism in our ward last night.  Musa Kanwai is from Nigeria and lived in Denver before coming to Montréal.  He was close to completing his PhD when he had to return to Nigeria for a period of time.  His absence caused the school to stop or cancel his degree and now he is in Montréal.  We need to chat further to fill in the gaps about why he came to Canada rather than return to Denver, etc.

Musa and Kalil

Kalil is the young man ordained an Elder at Stake Conference in November.  He is waiting for his older brother to complete his mission in British Columbia before submitting his mission papers.  You can see that Musa is short in stature; he might be as tall as 5'2" but no more than that.  He wanted his picture taken with Alex, who is 7'1" tall and the Elder's Quorum President, who is 6'2" tall.

Alex, Musa, and Dave

We all laughed when Musa ran to get the chair.  Even on the chair, he's not close to Alex's height.  He told Musa they had a lot in common - height, but in different directions!  Alex gave a talk on the Holy Ghost at the baptism.  He testified how much he loves the temple and goes every week since he received his endowments last month.
