January 16-22, 2023

We had the privilege of teaching the Valiant class in Primary today.  Our Primary isn't very big so the Valiant class includes all the children age 7 and older.  We had 12 children in class and they were all so well behaved and reverent.  They were a little rowdy during music time but we'll blame that on the music director!  They have been learning "Tell Me the Stories of Jesus"  this month.  That has always been one of my favorite Primary songs and it seems like we stopped singing it for years.  I'm so happy it is being taught to the children again.

It's been another cold and snowy week here.  We were chatting with one of our Nigerian friends at church today.  He moved here from Denver and said that he prefers the cooler weather (to the intense heat and humidity in Nigeria) but that Montréal is just too much!  We couldn't agree more!

We had Bishops Storehouse Saturday morning and a baptism in the evening.  We thought we had an appointment that would occupy most of the afternoon so we brought our church clothes with us and planned to spend the day in LaSalle.  The appointment fell through and rather than drive all the way home and back for the baptism, we treated ourselves to lunch in the mall food court and a matinee.  Neither of us can remember the last time we went to a movie at a theater... We watched "A Man Called Otto" starring Tom Hanks.  It is based on the book "A Man Called Ove" by Fredrik Backman  The book is always better than the movie but the movie was rated G and we enjoyed it.  Especially because they were showing the English version only!  The movie is a little slow moving but the story is funny and endearing.  We would recommend it.

Well, not all alone.  Solomon took this picture.  The baptism was scheduled to begin at 5:30 but the Bishop didn't even arrive until 5:50!

Bob is the Sunday School President and assisted the Elders in teaching Alex.

Solomon with Alex and the Elders

I've said before that Solomon is our best missionary.  He introduced Alex to the gospel.  Today he brought an entire family to church!  I overheard the Elders at the baptism asking Solomon to go finding with them one day and to show them how he meets all these people and talks to them about the gospel.

Milena, John, Miriam, me

Milena and Miriam oversee the food distribution at the food bank where we do service each Friday.  They have both been so kind and welcoming to us.  We really enjoy working with them.

These are the bins and other containers holding the items that we distribute to the patrons.  We stand at a window behind the plexiglass and the patrons walk down one of the two sides of the warehouse with shopping carts, stopping at each window along the way.  There are "runners" that replenish our supplies when they get low so that we don't have to leave our window unattended.
