My Aunt Donna passed away on March 26, 2023. She would have celebrated her 95th birthday in June. Aunt Donna is my mother's younger sister and was the last surviving aunt or uncle on both sides of my family. After my mother died in 1956, Aunt Donna always kept track of us and tried to keep in touch. Until she lost her hearing and could no longer use the telephone, she called each of us on our birthdays and would have lengthy chats with us. She was always interested in our families and what we were doing. I flew to Calgary Alberta on Saturday, April 1. Our daughter Sherri and her husband Jim picked me up at the airport and we drove to Lethbridge. I had not visited Alberta since we returned from our previous mission in 2019. It was nice to see some real mountains again. We stayed with granddaughter Heather and her family in Lethbridge. She was married during Covid, when we could not cross the border, and we had only met her husband Kyl...
Another great travel week! It has been such fun to spend time with my sister Nola and her husband Dan. We are in Topeka, Kansas today with my brother Pat and sister-in-law Donna. We have taken hundreds of pictures and gathered too much info so I'll try to summarize our stops and keep it brief. The Whitney store, where Joseph and Emma resided for a time. The School of the Prophets met in an upstairs room until the temple was completed. The revelation on the Word of Wisdom was received in that room, as well as o...
Close to the end of the week I was worried I didn't have anything to write for this week's blog. Now I'm afraid there's too much! We taught the first Temple Preparation class on Tuesday. One sister had Covid symptoms and didn't come. Everyone else was late! Everyone! So we changed the start time to 7:30 and will see if that works better. Once we got started, class went well. Sister Smith has been moved from the hospital to a nursing home but it is also temporary. She is still waiting for a space in a nursing home closer to her former home in Verdun. We visited with her on Thursday and was surprised to see her in her own clothing rather than a hospital gown. That blue gown is all we have ever seen her wearing! We noticed that many of the residents had personal touches in their rooms - an afghan on the bed or family photos - Sister Smith has nothing. I thought I could make a small quilt for her for Christmas. That dec...
