August 29-September 4, 2022
It was a pretty slow week for blog-worthy events and pictures. We spent one day doing missionary apartment inspections, where we take photos of problems or broken items. Some of those pics are gross and some are just plain boring so we won't share those. The rest of the week was pretty routine - Senior District Council on Monday, District Council on Thursday, our Thursday afternoon visit to Sister Smith in the hospital, service at the food bank on Friday and Bishop's storehouse on Saturday. We also had a couple member family visits this week.
We don't usually have dinner appointments like the young missionaries do but this week we had two invitations! The Bishop loves to cook, especially outside on the grill. Last week when he went to the store to buy a new gas grill for the ward, he saw a Traeger grill/smoker that was 50% off so he bought it for himself. We were the first beneficiaries of his purchase - he made ribs and grilled vegetables that were very delicious. I think he cooked five racks of ribs and sent a lot home with us. They were just as good the next night and I didn't have to cook!
After Bishop's storehouse our friends serving in Hawkesbury (about an hour west of us) called and asked us to meet them for lunch. They came to Châteauguay and we tried a place we pass often and have wanted to try but never had. It is called Oeuf Plus, meaning egg plus or more egg. It is mostly breakfast foods. John had a 3-meat skillet meal and I had eggs benedict with crab cakes instead of ham. Very good! And hard to believe but I totally forgot to take photos of our food!
This week we are especially grateful to be healthy. Two of the senior Elders have been hospitalized recently. Elder Walker, who served in the same French East mission with John, has renal failure and was not expected to live. He is doing much better today but still in the hospital and unsure if dialysis will become a permanent part of his life. They also discovered a problem with his heart while he has been there. The goal now is an accurate diagnosis and for Elder Walker to recover enough to return home. Six of their nine children have been able to come to Montréal to visit their dad and to help Sister Walker.
We enjoyed a beautiful sunset over the railroad bridge on the Saint Lawrence River Friday evening as we crossed the bridge on our way home.
