Happy Father's Day. We have had a nice, quiet day. The sun is shining but it feels more like a cool spring day here. It has been raining most of the week and the temps dropped into the 50's for a day or two. The brothers in our ward received this cute gift at church.
Immediately after the gifts were distributed, we could smell popcorn. Some of the youth were in the kitchen sampling one of the gifts.
Since I did a little tribute to my mother and grandmothers on Mother's Day, it's only fair that I do the same for my father and grandfathers today.
This is my father, Eldon Delbert Tolley. He passed away in 2000 at the age of 84. He experienced some troubled years when my mother passed away leaving six children under the age of 13 and again later when coping with the difficulties of a blended family. But his testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ never waivered. He was an example to me of a faithful and dedicated servant in the restored Church.
Samuel James Tolley, my father's father. He died in 1942 so I never had the chance to meet him.
I adored my maternal grandfather, Alma Leroy Draper. I lived on the farm with my grandparents after my mother passed away. Grandpa was a genuine cowboy and such a hard worker. I remember following him around as he did his farm chores. I'm sure I must have been a nuisance and slowed him down but he was patient and fun as he explained things to me. He was also a big tease.
I just found this picture - it has nothing to do with Father's Day (except that my father is in it) or missionary work but I love this old family photo.
Back to life in Quebec.
We found more ducklings in the park this week. They were snacking in the puddle on the walking path and apparently not afraid of humans. They didn't even pause as we walked right up to them to take the picture.
We attended Seminary graduation Saturday evening. The Bensons have Covid so we took their place to award the certificates. There were 42 youth in our Stake participating in seminary this year.
There was a youth dance after the Seminary grad; we only had four Seminary students (Sasha is to Elder Cooper's right, Ann is in the center in black, Léo is in the suit and Joel is on the end) but the other youth in our ward wanted to be in the picture with us so they all jumped in. Léo and Joel are only turning 14 this year. You would never guess from their height and size. They are all great kids.
