April 10-17, 2022
Happy Easter! We hope your day is filled with precious reminders of our Savior. We testify that he lives, he knows us individually and loves us all unconditionally.
You know how optimistic and hopeful you feel when you have a good plan for the week? You feel organized and energized; ready to get out there and conquer whatever gets in the way? That's how our week started, but thanks to this positive result:
This is how I spent most of my week:
All I really wanted to do was go home (Utah home) and lay on the couch with my favorite pillow and blanket. John was kind enough to loan me his favorite fish blanket to keep me warm and cozy. There wasn't any other option but to wait it out. It felt like an extreme case of the flu and a very nasty cold. Thank goodness for vaccinations - it could have been much worse.
And this is how John spent most of his week:
Sitting in his chair watching over me. He had to take care of everything this week. He was forced into isolation with me and if we thought the apartment was small before... He's a good sport about everything and has tested negative so far. We're waiting for more test kits to arrive this afternoon to see if I can get out of isolation and be sure John hasn't caught anything. He does have a bit of a cough and runny nose and we hope that's all it is.
We did teach Seminary this week. It was kind of a rough start with computer issues the first morning, then being sick the other days. We understand Zoom is the best we can do for now, we we both feel that in person instruction is so much better. We can tell the kids are distracted doing last minute homework or turning the camera off to blow dry hair (looked like she just got out of the shower when we started but had dry hair when we asked her to turn her camera back on) or whatever they do. One young man enters the meeting with the camera on his bed (with him in it). Once in awhile we see an arm or leg emerge but he never participates. We have to mark him absent; not sure why he even bothers.
Several of the young missionaries have Covid as well. We had Zone Conference last week and thought maybe that was the source. Possibly, but I know exactly where I picked it up. Last Saturday after the temple, we went to visit spunky Sister Ross. Her woodworker son from Ontario was there visiting (the one who made the fancy knife for me) and she wanted us to meet him. Sunday afternoon Sister Ross called to tell us that Daniel, the son who lives with her, was not feeling well. He went to bed early Saturday evening and was quite sick now. John took a test kit over and sure enough, he tested positive. I got sick Monday evening and Graham, the other son, got sick early Tuesday. We were very concerned about Sister Ross. She called every day to report in and check on us. She complained of having no energy and a bit of a cough. I suspected she had Covid but she didn't do a test until Friday. She hasn't gotten an any worse and we hope it remains a mild case for her.
John did the grocery shopping on Friday and I made chicken noodle soup - you know it cures everything. We made enough to share with Daniel and Sister Ross. John delivered it their house. It was my first real food all week, other than crackers and toast and juice. I do feel much better today. Still have a runny nose and cough and don't have much energy but I am beginning to feel normal again.

I'm so sorry to hear you came down with covid. So far, we have been lucky! I had to have a test Saturday after our Temple shift because I am going in for a day surgery tomorrow morning. I got the results last night and I was negative which I knew I would be. Prayers you recover quickly!
