Spring might be coming!  It was only 41 F and overcast but we decided to chance a walk outdoors on Saturday.  Part of the walk was along the Châteauguay River and was a little windy and cool.  The route we followed was about 2.5 miles.  We enjoyed walking along the river and through the neighborhoods.

We saw a lot of Canadian geese on the river.  The water is very high right now.  Too bad we can't send some of it to Utah to help with the drought situation.  We are looking forward to many more outdoor adventures, eventually.  It was snowing again this morning.

We found a private clinic in Kirkland to do John's EKG.  It was a 35 minute drive each way but in a area we hadn't yet explored so didn't mind the drive.  All his medical tests have come back normal.  That's a good thing except we have no clue what is causing the dizziness.  He is having some good days where he doesn't notice anything unusual.  Another day he may wake up so dizzy he can't walk.  We're hoping for more good days and that it will eventually resolve itself.

It was transfer week.  Only Elder Guerrette, our District Leader, was transferred to another area.  Elder McDonald (bottom left) is our new District Leader.  Elder Ford's new companion is Elder Jenkins from Star Valley Wyoming.

We went to breakfast Wednesday as a district to tell Elder Guerrette (bottom right) goodbye.  The restaurant is across the street from the chapel in LaSalle.  The food was very good.  I had my favorite eggs benedict and the Elders all had Nutella/banana french toast.

While we're on the food subject - we discovered a great Italian deli and European market just a block from our patisserie.  We stopped there for a sandwich on the way home from our Saturday walk.

Our niece had shared her recipe for overnight crusty bread with us awhile ago.  I made it Friday night and baked it to eat with our shrimp salad Saturday evening.  We thought it turned out great!

When John lived here in LaSalle many years ago, he became acquainted with a man named Emil Monssen.  Emil was investigating the church at the time.  John was very involved in teaching Emil with the missionaries.  He was the best man at Emil and Suzanne's wedding prior to their baptism.  John and Emil have been in touch off and on over the years.  I met Emil when we came to Montreal on vacation 20 years ago.  They kind of lost touch after that.  One of the first things John did when we arrived in Montreal was to find Emil.  Emil had his 87th birthday last Sunday.  He is in the same stake but attends the Montreal ward.  Suzanne passed away several years ago.  John and Emil have had many telephone conversations but because of Covid restrictions and weather they had not seen each other.  Until today at Stake Conference.  It was a sweet reunion.

They are two of the cutest little old men I know!  Emil still drives and lives on his own.  I hope they can spend more time together while we are here.

We had a wonderful Stake Conference this weekend.  It was so nice to be gathered in a large group, singing hymns and being taught in person.  We were treated by the Mandarin Branch singing I Know That My Redeemer Lives in their language.  So beautiful.  President and Sister Harkness spoke at the Saturday evening session.  This morning the Stake Presidency each spoke and we learned more about the Atonement, using the handbook, missionary work and attending the temple.

"We are prone to say that we are waiting on the Lord to receive light and truth when as a matter of fact, the Lord is waiting on us - waiting for us to get into condition so he can reveal the light we seek and so desperately need." (Hartman Rector Jr, April 1971)

  2. I sure enjoy reading your blog Karen. I'm so happy you are serving in Canada. Tony and I want to serve a mission but will do so after our mother's pass. Tony's mom is 90 and we help her on a daily basis. His aun,t Joyce Haverfield (you probably remember her) lives right across the street from us and we help her as well. My mom will be 100 in July and she lives in her own apartment at my brother Ricks house in Astoria Oregon. We try to get over frequently to see her. We have been Ordinance Workers in the Temple here and are going on our 4th year. We served in the Boise temple for two years and then were put in a new Stake so we work in the Meridian Temple. We love it.
